Any level of LEED certification is a significant accomplishment. However, Platinum and Gold LEED-certified homes are considered the gold standard in environmentally responsible construction. This level of LEED certification calls for creative problem solving during the design process and a genuine interest in protecting the environment.
As the pinnacle of the LEED certification system, Platinum status is the most coveted award attainable. This remarkable rating is awarded to homes that have earned 80 or more points on the LEED rating system. A LEED Gold certified home is also extremely environmentally friendly. Most of the categories for determining a LEED Gold rating range from 60 to 79 points.
For a home to be considered LEED Silver, it must have between 50 and 59 total points. A LEED Silver home will still go above and beyond what is necessary by code to ensure a healthy atmosphere.
A minimum threshold of required elements has been met, making the home eligible for LEED certification. Any given house that falls within this category will have been awarded 40 and 49 total points. Many commercial structures have huge floor plans, high maintenance expenses, and high volumes of foot traffic.
