Vilitra 60 mg is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains the active ingredient Vardenafil, which belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. The mechanism of action of Vilitra 60 mg vardenafil involves its interaction with certain enzymes and chemicals in the body to promote penile erection. During sexual stimulation, the release of nitric oxide (NO) occurs in the erectile tissue of the penis. Nitric oxide activates an enzyme called guanylate cyclase, which leads to an increase in the levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP relaxes the smooth muscles in the penile blood vessels, allowing them to dilate and promote blood flow to the penis. This increased blood flow is essential for achieving and maintaining an erection.
However, another enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) breaks down cGMP, which can result in a decrease in blood flow to the penis and difficulty in achieving or sustaining an erection. Vilitra 60 mg works by inhibiting the action of PDE5, thereby preventing the degradation of cGMP and prolonging its effects. This allows for better blood flow to the penile tissues, leading to improved erectile function.
