Detectives and higher-ranking officers wear gold badges, whereas patrolmen (Police Officers I, II, III, IV) wear silver badges. Officers and detectives receive police badges Canada numbers with four and high three digits, ranging from around #470 to 2999. Unless they are promoted to a higher-ranking officer, these numbers follow them throughout their careers.
