Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Gorges
Your journey begins early in the morning as you depart from Marrakech. The drive takes you through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which reaches an elevation 3 day desert tour from marrakech to merzouga of over 2,200 meters. The winding roads, dramatic cliffs, and stunning panoramic views offer incredible photo opportunities.
Your first major stop is at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historic clay architecture. This ancient fortified village has been featured in many famous movies and series such as Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and The Mummy. You will explore the narrow alleyways, learn about Berber history, and enjoy the charming desert atmosphere.
After lunch, the tour continues through the beautiful landscapes of the Rose Valley and the Skoura Oasis, where palm trees and traditional villages decorate the horizon. By late afternoon, you will arrive at Dades Gorges, a natural wonder carved by the Dades River. Here, you will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a traditional riad or guesthouse overlooking the canyon.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga – Sahara Desert Camp
On the second day, the adventure continues with a drive toward the towering Todra Gorge. These dramatic cliffs rise up to 300 meters, creating a spectacular natural corridor popular among hikers and climbers. You will have time to walk through the gorge, enjoy the scenery, and take memorable photos.
The road then leads you across a series of desert landscapes as you pass through small Berber towns like Tinjdad and Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops and desert culture.
By the afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes—some of the tallest sand dunes in Morocco. Here, a special highlight of the tour awaits: a camel trek into the Sahara Desert. Riding camels across the golden dunes during sunset is one of the most magical experiences you can have. The changing colors of the sand and sky create a dream-like atmosphere.
Your night is spent at a luxury or standard desert camp nestled among the dunes. You will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, live Berber music around a campfire, stargazing, and the peaceful silence of the desert.
