Filitra (which contains Sildenafil) can cause vision changes in some people. Here’s how and why — and how common/serious this may be. Sildenafil can lead to temporary visual effects such as blurred vision, changes in colour perception (often a blue or blue?green tint), increased sensitivity to light (photophobia), or bright/light?sensitivity vision. These effects tend to appear about 1–2 hours after taking the dose, coinciding with peak drug levels, and usually subside within a few hours. The mechanism: Sildenafil targets an enzyme (PDE5) for erectile dysfunction — but it also mildly affects a related enzyme (PDE6) found in the Filitra (in rod and cone photoreceptors). This off?target effect can temporarily alter retinal signaling and thus colour vision or light perception. Mild, transient vision effects (like colour tinge, light sensitivity, blurred vision) are relatively well?documented side effects. Most clinical studies have not found evidence of long?term damage to visual acuity, visual fields, or contrast sensitivity when Sildenafil is used at recommended doses. Very rarely — mostly in case reports — more serious issues have been reported. For example: persistent colour-vision problems, prolonged blurriness, or — in rare cases — serious optic?nerve conditions (like Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, NAION) after use. Risk seems to increase with higher doses and possibly in individuals with certain underlying eye conditions or genetic susceptibilities. If you take Filitra at a recommended dose, occasional use — and you do not have pre-existing eye disease — there is a real chance of mild, temporary vision changes (like blue tint, mild blurring, light sensitivity). These effects typically resolve in hours. However, although rare, serious eye events — including lasting vision problems — have been reported. Because of that, if you ever notice sudden vision loss, persistent blurriness, changes in color vision or light sensitivity, you should stop the medication immediately and consult a doctor.
