Filitra 20 mg, which contains vardenafil (a PDE5 inhibitor), is used primarily to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Like other medications in this class (such as sildenafil and tadalafil), it works by increasing blood flow to the penis, allowing for an erection when sexually aroused. However, it does come with potential side effects, and certain situations or conditions can increase the risk of these side effects. When Filitra 20 mg Has the Highest Risk of Side Effects: When Taken with Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): High Risk: This is one of the most dangerous interactions. Both Filitra and nitrates lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a severe drop in blood pressure (hypotension), which could lead to dizziness, fainting, or even a heart attack. Avoid: Do not take Filitra if you are on any nitrate medication for chest pain or heart conditions. When Combined with Alpha-Blockers (e.g., doxazosin, tamsulosin): Increased Risk of Low Blood Pressure: Both Filitra and alpha-blockers lower blood pressure. When combined, there is a higher chance of dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting, especially when standing up quickly. Precaution: If you need to take both, your healthcare provider might need to adjust dosages or monitor your blood pressure closely. In Individuals with Pre-existing Heart Conditions: Increased Cardiovascular Risk: Filitra can affect blood pressure, and if you have heart disease, you may be at greater risk of complications. People with severe heart conditions or those who have had a recent heart attack or stroke should avoid Filitra or take it with great caution.
