A red card in football is the most serious disciplinary action a referee can give during a match. It is shown when a player commits a major foul or behaves in a way that goes against the principles of fair play. After receiving a red card, the player must immediately leave the field and cannot be replaced, which means their team must continue the game with fewer players. In the rules of Association football, a red card is usually issued for serious offenses such as violent conduct, dangerous challenges, intentionally handling the ball to stop a clear goal-scoring chance, or using offensive language toward officials or opponents. A player may also be sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the same match, which results in an automatic red card. These regulations help maintain discipline and protect the safety of players on the field.
