I was testing different fragrance ingredients for my upcoming collection when an unexpected late-night blending session made me realize how many people are confused about oud oil vs essential oils. Oud oil is a rare and highly concentrated extract from agarwood resin, known for its deep, smoky, and woody aroma that evolves slowly and lasts for many hours on the skin. Essential oils, however, are extracted from plants like flowers, herbs, or fruits and are often lighter, used for aromatherapy or skincare, and usually don’t last as long as oud. The main difference comes down to depth and purpose—oud oil is crafted for luxury perfumery and strong presence, while essential oils are more versatile but less intense. I’m trying to find oud oils that feel rich, smooth, and long-lasting rather than light or quickly fading. Has anyone here experienced oud oil that clearly stands out compared to regular essential oils in both performance and character?
