Return of the Ancients lands like more than a balance pass. It changes how you plan a character, how you read danger, and even how you think about early trading and PoE2 Currency when a league is fresh. You'll notice it fast: old shortcuts don't carry the same weight, and builds that used to coast through the Atlas now have to prove they can survive real pressure. The new endgame structure gives players clearer routes, proper regional goals, and bosses that feel tied to progression rather than dropped in at random. That alone makes the patch feel bigger than a normal update.

New ascendancies get the spotlight
The loudest winners are the fresh ascendancies. Martial Artist gives Monk players something sharper and more explosive, built around Hollow Form clones, bell detonations, and Power Charge scaling. It's the kind of setup that looks flashy on paper but also seems practical, which is rare. Fast maps, real boss damage, and enough movement to stay alive. Spirit Walker is getting similar attention for Huntress. Its companion playstyle fits neatly with Runic Ward, so it doesn't feel like a gimmick bolted onto an old system. It has mobility, extra layers of safety, and rune utility that should matter deep into maps.

Casters may have gained more than people expected
Chronomancer is probably the most interesting comeback story. Before this patch, plenty of players liked the idea but picked something simpler when it was time to push damage. Now its timing tools matter more. Energy Shield recharge isn't as brainless as it used to be, and delayed damage handling has real value. That makes Chronomancer feel less niche and more like a smart late-game choice. Stormweaver also stays in a good place. Spark, Orb of Storms, freeze setups, and cold scaling still offer smooth levelling and clean mapping. Attack builds took some harder hits, so casters may end up controlling the early economy while melee players tune their gear.

Old power loops take a hit
Bloodmage players are going to feel the patch. Leech caps, Covenant changes, and Atziri's Acuity adjustments all chip away at the sustain loops that made expensive trigger builds so comfortable. The ascendancy isn't dead, but it won't be as forgiving. You can't just throw life costs at the screen and expect recovery to solve the problem. Traditional melee has its own headaches. Splash behaviour, Rolling Slam, Whirling Assault, and Boneshatter-style clears have all been checked in some way. Melee can still work, sure, but the best versions will need cleaner positioning, better defensive planning, and more investment than before.

The endgame is the real test
The Atlas rework might be the change that lasts longest. Instead of wandering through disconnected maps, players now move through regions with purpose, chasing fortress encounters, story arcs, and clearer reward paths. Delirium, Ritual, and Breach also feel less messy thanks to better pacing and readability. Hybrid defences, especially Evasion plus Energy Shield, look more sensible in this environment. With recombinator-style crafting pulled back, gearing will be less about forcing perfect items and more about making smart upgrades as you go. Players who want to rush progression may still choose to buy PoE2 Currency for a faster start, but Patch 0.5 clearly rewards people who adapt, test, and rebuild instead of clinging to last patch's habits.Return of the Ancients is changing how PoE 2 feels, with Martial Artist clones, Spirit Walker utility, safer hybrid defenses, and a cleaner Atlas grind. U4GM brings quick, player-first updates and practical gearing help, including Path of Exile 2 Currency at https://www.u4gm.com/path-of-exile-2/currency so you can chase the new meta without losing the fun.
