The KA02 Assessment is required for engineers whose qualifications are not automatically recognized under international engineering agreements. Its primary purpose is to determine whether an applicant has the academic knowledge and engineering competency expected by Engineering New Zealand. Successfully completing the assessment helps engineers demonstrate their professional capability and increases their chances of obtaining registration, employment, and migration opportunities in New Zealand. It also assures employers that applicants possess the technical skills needed to perform engineering duties effectively.
The IPENZ KA02 process requires applicants to submit a detailed engineering report based on real projects they have completed. The report should explain engineering objectives, technical challenges, design approaches, calculations, standards used, risk assessments, and final project outcomes. Assessors carefully evaluate how applicants applied engineering principles, solved complex problems, and contributed to successful project delivery. Providing original documentation and clear technical explanations strengthens the overall application.
The IPENZ KA02 Knowledge Assessment also measures an applicant's communication skills, ethical responsibilities, and professional engineering judgment.
