I have just started exploring various exterior finishes for houses and commercial buildings, and one thing which has caught my attention is charred timber. Charring is a traditional finish applied to the timber, making it appear dark and giving it natural texture.
There are quite a few benefits of using charred timber but the first one is obviously aesthetic. The color range can vary from black to brown and it looks amazing with glass, concrete, stone, light wood, among other things. Charred timber is suitable for use in exterior walls, panels, garden elements, and other architectural details.
Another great point is that charring is known to enhance the environmental resistance of timber. But this applies only to those timbers which are treated properly and installed correctly.
Have any of you used charred timber for exterior finishing?
